Tree of Life

I am captivated by the Tree of Life image. It evokes so many spiritual images for me: strong, vibrant faith, reaching up to the heavens while being rooted in the natural world, drawing new life and growth up through the roots which delve deep into the earth. In “Tree of Life: Regeneration,” I wanted to portray a sense of the cyclical nature of our spiritual life. This tree is shown at the end of the winter, a time of dormancy. The branches are bare and there is no visible sign of growth. Yet we can see the roots of this tree, and they are deep in fertile soil, drinking up nourishment and preparing for the bloom of growth yet ahead. The sunrise likewise portrays a time of new birth. To me, this is a piece of great hopefulness.
